No Mans Sky Is Proper Games as a Service

  1. Donny Sheldon: Halo 5s post launch content was stuff that should have been there at launch!
  2. Ceniros: Games as a service? No thanks
  3. coldven0m: +Legacy Zero Its kinda weird, I live in England and literally everyone I know uses the term quid, like the word "buck" for a dollar I guess , but I have no clue as to why lol
  4. HardWarUK: 30 million British Pounds is about 40 million U.S. Dollars.
  5. Tyler Thunder: HG really cares for their fans which is good!
  6. coldven0m: A quid is slang term for British pound sterling, rather than saying 10 pounds, you would say 10 quid.
  7. Tyler Thunder: Good vid they wont charge which is good Sean said here https://m.ign.com/articles/2018/08/18/sean-murray-on-the-present-past-and-future-of-no-mans-sky
  8. Legacy Zero: Lol yeah I had assumed they were related. I didnt know they were the same thing though haha
  9. edwin11373: I wouldn't like microtransactions for NMS not necessarily because I have a problem with microtransactions itself but rather because I don't like how greedy/unethical companies become because of it. You know, I don't mind at all paying for a traditional well made expansion that adds tons of things to the game. But I think it's too early for HG to be doing this because the game still needs to be flesh out or fixed and asking for more money even if it's reasonable(for an expansion)could rub some people the wrong way. So far, I love how HG is doing business, specially the way they're communicating with the fans:)
  10. Legacy Zero: Did you watch and hear my arguments orrr
  11. Frank Moore: I have nearly 2000 hours in game now and I still am loving it. I bought it for PC at the $60 price and feel I got a bargain based on the amount of fun I have had and all the updates that have come out. If the current update cycle is kept I would have no issue with it going to game as a service.
  12. Max Weir: What gfx card are you using on your build?
  13. Legacy Zero: Why don't we stop throwing a fit about the price point for games, and take a wider look at a reasonable justification. Sony has accidentally leaked unconfirmed player counts for all of it's games. Let's have a look at the how many players have entered No Man's Sky, relate it to Games as a Service
  14. HardWarUK: It fit's with the rumour that Hello Games have sold a total of 9 million copies, and selling around 500,000 units every time they release a large update. NEXT supposedly produced 1.5+ million sales!
  15. Aurenian: Yeah I'm not a fan of microtransactions, loot boxes, season passes or the general 'games as a service' model. Mostly because I've never seen a game where the added pain the ass was justified. It's always an excuse to take more money for less work. I like that NMS doesn't require more money down as they add content. They seem to be happy to pick up sales by boosting value with updates and branching out with other new products to fund the company. If they can balance NMS work hours with time spent on new projects, and keep a healthy cash flow, then why not? Also one side of the 'games as service' model that wasn't brought up is if you charge extra money, then people start expecting more. At the moment we're pretty happy for them to drop an update when it's ready. Whenever that is. But would we be as content to let new stuff happen on its own timeline if we were shelling out real money for Quicksilver, or paying for season passes? Probably not. Since NEXT I'd say that NMS is a good proposition for it's $60 price tag. As the content increases and improves it will be even better for that price as time goes by. It will become a steal for $60. But if the effective cost goes up over time with extra monetisation? On the developer side if they start charging more, then they put more pressure on themselves to bring out more stuff. Maybe quicker than they want to with a small team. Much larger companies have entire art departments they can put to work on throwing out pointless cosmetics they can charge for. Also from a work perspective, if you're constantly racking your brains for ideas to add random extra stuff to keep up with a schedule, that's a great way to burn out on a project. Right now if you pay the price of admission, you're in. And the theme park develops in awesome ways around you. Hello Games add a new ride when they are ready. If it works for them, let it. I'm curious what content you could see them adding to the game for extra money that wouldn't split the community?
  16. Radio Caravan: It’s definitely something to mention that HG’s entire cash value in Jan18 is 1/5th the budget for some of the huge games they’re lumped in with. They do a great job being a one time entry Game As A Service probably because their upkeep costs are 5% the size of a AAA developer. You can take this two ways; one to call them a unicorn and say their success can’t be repeated. Or you can say they make a really good case for mid/low budget games getting ambitious and going for the single purchase service model.
  17. Legacy Zero: Exactly 😮
  18. Chuck Peck: NMS provides an alternative template for game longevity.
  19. Captain Aniki: He just read the title not the video
  20. Tyler Thunder: Yeah I can see the game updating for a long time
  21. Tyler Thunder: 👍
